Frequently asked questions

Why should I use a facial oil?
There are so many benefits of facial oils. As you get older, wrinkles suddenly look deeper - one of the reasons being that the moisture barrier breaks down and the skin dries out. Most moisturisers contain a bit of oil, although not enough to make a difference to this water loss. Because oils are lipophilic, or fat loving, they pass though the lipid layer of the skin faster, preventing water loss and plumping skin with moisture more effectively.
What is the difference with newer facial oils?
Modern facial oils offer an innovative spin on the traditional formulas from the past. Even though facial oils have been popular in Asia for years now, in the West they were previously more common for body rather than face with richer formulas that left a lot of product residue on the skin. Today facial oils have sophisticated formulas with a much 'finer' combination of targeted oils. For instance, we use ingredients like Bakuchiol, a natural retinol-like compound which reduces the depth and appearance of wrinkles and Sea Buckthorn Berry Oil which is the richest source of Omega 7 in the world. Modern facial oils, if applied under your anti-aging cream can also help with the absorption of active ingredients deeper in the skin.
Which products are better to moisturise your skin - cream or oils?
The answer is quite simply both; creams and oils can be incorporated into anyone's skincare routine. Oils protect the skin's lipid barrier and ensures moisture doesn't evaporate from your skin.
Won't applying an oil to acne-prone/greasy skin clog pores, cause breakouts or leave a greasy film?
This does not happen. Most natural oils are easily absorbed and noncomedogenic (they don't clog pores).
Are there any skin types that should avoid facial oils?
Anyone can use a facial oil. A common misconception is that people with oily skin should avoid them. Typically, people with oily skin dry their skin with chemicals, stripping it of natural oils which causes the moisture level to fall out of balance. Their skin then produces a disproportionate amount of oil in an effort to try and stabilise it, which subsequently leads to blocked pores. By applying a good facial oil to oily skin, it works to rebalance the moisture level as oil dissolves oil, or rather, rebalances the oil level in your skin.
What is Bakuchiol?
Extracted from the bakuchi seed, Bakuchiol is considered a natural and chemically stable alternative to retinol (or vitamin A), providing the same efficacious benefits without the risk of skin sensitivity and irritation. Backuchiol, like retinol, encourages skin renewal through increasing cellular turnover, stimulating collagen production, and thus, diminishing signs of ageing. This in turn helps refine skin texture, reduce pigmentation and calms redness.
